Music Notes - Sunday 20th March 2011

Well, what a concert. A triumph, with excellent performances and smooth organisation during the day. Once again we have had many emails about how good it was, Alison is delighted and many have commented on the 'best ever' concert!

A recording is being sorted, and so are the pictures. Thanks so much to everyone who helped, prepared ensembles, organised the day, shouted at musicians and so on. We must not forget that it is out of the ordinary to put on a concert like this, term after term. The whole Simon Balle Music community involved. Wonderful. Once again, a real team effort.

Congratulations to Jenny who has accepted a job in Romania from September.

Next weekend, our emails change to google. Full details will be in next week's music notes, with a video of how to access. We will set up the forwarding for you to your usual email, and there are bound to be some glitches. This also ties in with the new website and virtual 'cloud'. Great fun will be had!

There are still 3 weeks to go this term........... Hum. Next term, there are only 9 or 10 Mondays as far as we can work out, so Monday teachers need to be on at least lesson 23 by the end of this term. Fridays are not much better. Teachers who are in on the last day of term - please pass Sue your timetable for that day, this week so she can inform parents.

Trinity exams this week, Musical Theatre next week, AB in a couple of weeks. If you have any concerns about preparation, they should have been raised with parents by now. I have heard of a few issues, and am assuming that all others are fine. If not, it is your responsibility to let me know, now!

Year 11 GCSE Music students have been asked to collect copies of their part of their solo and ensemble for this week. If sheet music is not available, they have to upload the original track to their NUMU page.

The Big Band are performing at the Civic Dinner thing of the Mayor of Ware next Saturday evening. Should be a fun event.

I am aware of how hard everyone is working at present. The late Easter does not help, and it is important that we all survive. If there is something I can do to help with the pressure, let me know. I am working to plan for next year, to ensure that we still have the capacity to achieve what we achieve, but inevitably some things will have to change and develop. That is for then. Now, we have to keep at it and keep chasing those musicians!

Mark.

Some fantastic pictures from James Begg. Click on the top one. You can see Mr Stevenson going 'damn I was playing the wrong piece....'.
