Music Notes - Sunday 13th March 2011

As I write we are finishing the A Level recitals. They have been a 'journey' and an experience. All candidates performed to the best of their ability, thankfully!

What has been especially fantastic has been the teamwork that has gone on to support the musicians. Throughout the stressful process, everyone has rallied for the benefit of the musicians. As we know, teamwork is a strength of the department, and the development of our teams has been a priority for the year. Everyone has their strength and the way we support each other is inspiring. Yes, there are still things to develop, but we have achieved a lot this year. Thank you to everyone for being part of your team, and the wider team of the music department. Working together for the benefit of all our musicians.

On Thursday, the Big Band performed at the Secondary Head's Conference. The heads did not really know what they were getting, and the evening ended up being a total triumph. They were in awe of the standard of performance, and what one school is able to achieve. Many staff were there, and the heads kept coming up to us saying how good it was. Alison was very proud as well, and has already been in contact with praise and more praise.

Tuesday of course is the Spring Concert. So many of our music community are performing and once more it will be a fantastic team effort. Thank you so much to everyone who is involved - I am sure it will be a great evening once again.

The last day of term - Friday 8th April. The day has changed slightly as we are having training in school for the new email and 'cloud'. So, there will not be any normal lessons. However, AB exams are continuing, and all instrumental teaching will continue. Therefore, please ensure that your Friday students are aware of this, and we will also inform parents. Please pass your timetable to Sue as soon as you can for that day and she will email parents with the times. If they miss, they miss the lesson.

There is so much going on at the moment, but so much success. Thank you to everyone, and keep chasing and hassling the students. The future is still uncertain, so we must be as prepared as possible for what is to come!
