Music News - 30th October

Hello! I hope half term was good.

In GCSE Music, performance is worth 40% of the final grade. Students have to produce a solo and an ensemble recording to this standard. Remember - the marking criteria were included in your folders at the start of term. Please have a quick reminder! Do have a look at the predicted grade, as it gives some idea of the standard and sort of performance that the students are expected to produce.

Year 11 - most recorded a solo last year. They will most probably have something better now. I am asking them to arrange to submit a solo, with the copy of the solo part sheet music, by the end of november at the very very latest. There will be an envelope thing in the kitchen for the sheet music - just put their name on it please. Remember - if there are any things to note like repeats etc, the music should be marked up accordingly. It is the responsibility of the students to sort this, but some need help.
Year 11 also require an ensemble. I know many of you are arranging this. Again I will speak to the musicians this week, but please have the conversation with them this week.
If you require any help with recordings, please let me know. If you have already completed them, please chat to the student about the one to use, the best one. Often, they don't know, so don't think about it.

Year 10. The year group are working very well, however the targets for many are stupidly high. Please continue to get some recordings completed this term and next - don't put it off! I will be chatting to them this week and next about it. Again, sheet music in the folder - lets get it out the way!!

Here is a list of all the students:

This term, as well as the main concert, we have the Faure involving Take Note and the Maltings Sinfonia. I know many are involved, and have been working over half term. The same for Les Miserables that is nearing the finishing post, or barricade!

Autumn Concert - please can ensembles leaders complete the form below detailing items to be performed. Rehearsals will be on the day: Strings first, Coro (Les Mis) Period 3, other choirs, then Wind and Brass in the afternoon. Let me know if you foresee any issues. Polo shirts for musicians are available from Sue - £10 each.

Have a great week!
